Daniel Negreanu is a name synonymous
with poker. He is one of the
most well liked players by both
poker fans, and the players
he plays with. Negranu's demeanor
at the table is one that sidplays
both his love for the game,
and his light hearted nature.
Daniel is fromt the Toronto
area, which is where his parents
decided to stay after moving
from Romania. Daniel has been
a lover of games since he was
young. He first learned to play
poker when he was 15, however
is was billiards at which he
first excelled. More of Daniels
time was spent hustling people
in the pool hall, playing poker,
and betting on sporting events
than he was in the class room.
Daniel decided to forgo the
rest of his schooling, and drop
out to become a professional
gambler. He played poker at
local back room games, and local
charity events, always looking
for the next good game and building
his bankroll. By the time Daniel
turned 21, he had enough of
a bankroll to make a journey
to Las Vegas to pursue his dream.
Unfortunately for Daniel his
first try ended like so many
others and he was forced to
move home to Toronto to work
on moving back up in the poker
world.
Negreanu turned this around,
and in 1997, he won his first
major tournament. He was able
to win two different events
at the World Poker Finals held
at Foxwoods Casino, which netted
him over $55,000. Negreanu was
able to continue his major tournament
success by winning the Pot Limit
Hold Em event at the 1998 World
Series of Poker, and earning
a $169, 460, and in doing so
became the youngest player ever
to win a WSOP bracelet, which
remained his record until 2004.
From that point on Negreanu
only got better, and quickly
became known as one of the best
tournament players on the scene.
Negreanu has two WPT titles
to his credit, as well as three
WSOP bracelets, and twelve appearances
at WSOP final tables. In 2004,
Negreanu was named the World
Series of Poker player of the
year, and he followed that with
a WPT player of the year in
2005.
Daniel is also a great business
man. When the Wynn resort opened
in Las Vegas, Daniel became
their Poker Ambassador. This
meant Daniel would play in games
that the Wynn asked him to,
in return for the Wynn staking
him. This lasted until October
of 2005, when Daniel decided
to part ways due to not being
able to play in any of the other
high stakes games available
in town. Negreanu also launched
his own poker website, offering
both forums and a card room.
Daniel ran a promotion in which
he has selected a protege on
two different occasions, where
Daniel will be tutoring and
staking and amateur player.
Daniel was also named the fans
favorite player by Card Player
Magazine in 2006.
Pokerstars was able to add Daniel
to their roster in 2007. This
partnership forced Daniels site
to become strictly forum ands
strategy related. Along with
playing online, you will often
see Daniel playing in the biggest
high stakes cash games around,
and he is a regular on TV's
High Stakes Poker. Daniel is
also an avid golf player, known
for betting very large sums
of money on golf games with
fellow poker pro's.
Negreanu is known for his uncanny
ability to read his opponents,
often able to put a player on
two exact cards. This combined
with great decision making ability
makes Daniel one of the premier
poker players in the world.
